Fairgrounds MMA

When I first heard of the Barbarian Fight Club, I might not have put it to permanent memory, but I was reminded this Saturday Evening, when I traveled to the Fairgrounds in Fredericksburg, Va.  The Fight Club was the beginning for Colton Smith, this year's winner of the UFC's Ultimate Fighter competition.

The event was housed in an exhibition building, the restrooms were out of order, the beer served in plastic cups, the fighters amateur, and a portion of the fightcard last minute.  A true grassroots experience, complete with first round KO's, Rear-Naked Chokes, all the excitement and feel of a hometown Friday Night Football  game.

The old adage, "a picture is worth a thousand words" is never not true.  In this case, a picture's worth might very well exceed a thousand words.  Before sharing the photo's from the fights, I wanted recognize two fighters, Christopher Isani and Nicholas Shelkin for a job well done.  Isani, in many's opinion, fought outside and above his ideal weight class.  Even though, Chris lost his bout, the opposition's fight gym recognized his talent to the point of attempting to recruit him to their camp.  Shelkin's opponent changed last minute, insert a coal mining dude from Beckley, WV, and increased nerves pre-fight for Nick.  Unknown opponent, no problem, as Shelkin took care of business within the first round, when he slapped on a rear-naked choke to end things in short order.

Here are some Photos from Barbarian Fight Club Event, the lighting and the "focus first cage" played havoc with my camera.  Hope you enjoy them nonetheless.

Later on,

Brady Rauch

I believe this the fighter who was great enough to leave a comment.  If so, you fought your heart out too.  Keep up the good work.  Shout Out to Overthrow!
